When using fireworks, make sure you protect yourself and others with these fireworks safety tips:
- Always read and follow labelled directions.
- Only use fireworks outdoors
- Always have a water source such as a garden hose or bucket handy
- Never experiment with or make your own fireworks
- Light only one firework at a time
- Never re-light a dud firework. Wait 15 to 20 minutes, then soak the dud in a bucket of water.
- Never let children handle, play with or set off fireworks under any circumstances. This includes sparklers which can burn at a very high temperature and can easily cause burns and ignite clothing.
- Dispose of fireworks properly by following the manufacturer's instruction for safe disposal.
- Don't set off fireworks in a strong wind
- Never throw or point fireworks at other people
- Never carry fireworks in your pocket
- Never shoot fireworks in metal or glass containers
- The shooter should always wear eye protection and never have any part of their body over the firework.
- Stay away from illegal explosives
